Rabbits are creatures of habit, and a boarding stay is much smoother when their food, smells, and setup stay familiar. Use this as a simple packing list before drop-off.
Food & hay
Bring enough of your bunny's usual hay, pellets, and treats for the whole stay. Or I keep Timothy hay, pellets, and treats on hand if you'd rather travel light. Either way, their routine stays the same.
- Enough hay for the whole stay, plus a little extra. Sudden hay changes can upset digestion, so bring your bunny's usual type โ or let them stay on my Timothy hay.
- Their normal pellets, measured or with clear daily portions noted. I stock pellets too if you'd rather not pack them.
- The greens and veggies they already eat. A stay is not the time to introduce new foods.
- Any treats you'd like given (in moderation). I have treats available as well.
Litter & habitat items
- Their litter box and a supply of the litter they're used to.
- A favorite blanket, mat, or a piece of unwashed bedding that smells like home.
- One or two familiar toys or chews.
You don't need to bring a full enclosure or pen โ a clean, safe space is already set up here. Just bring the comfort items that carry your bunny's scent.
Health & medications
- Any medications, clearly labeled, with dosages and timing written down.
- Critical care powder or syringes if your bunny uses them.
- Your exotic vet's name and phone number.
The notes I actually need
A few sentences about your bunny goes a long way: their normal appetite and energy, what healthy output looks like for them, any quirks or fears, and how they like to be handled. If anything seems off during the stay, this is what helps me catch it early โ and the early signs of GI stasis are exactly the kind of thing that is easier to spot when I know what normal looks like for your rabbit.
Getting your rabbit here
Whether you are coming from Hoboken, Jersey City or across the Hudson from Manhattan, the trip itself is easier with three things: a secure carrier, a towel or non-slip mat in the bottom so nobody slides on the turns, and a light cloth over the top so your rabbit is not watching the world rush past. Tuck in a handful of their usual hay, and do not read anything into it if they ignore it โ most rabbits do not eat while travelling.
On arrival I leave new guests alone in the pen with hay and water rather than handling them straight away. An hour to investigate a new space unbothered is usually the difference between a rabbit who settles that same evening and one who takes a full day.
