Jersey City is big; rabbit care in it is thin
Jersey City is the second-largest city in New Jersey, and it still has remarkably few people who will confidently take a rabbit for a week. Plenty of sitters will take a rabbit; far fewer can tell you what a normal poop count looks like, why a rabbit sitting hunched with their feet tucked under them is a problem, or what to do at 11pm when a bunny has not touched their hay since morning.
I only board rabbits, and only one household at a time. That constraint is the whole point. There is no kennel row, no dogs, no children, and no other client's rabbit sharing the space. Your bunny gets a quiet corner of a private apartment and someone whose entire attention is on one animal.
Getting here from Jersey City
How long the trip takes depends a lot on which Jersey City you live in. From the Heights or Journal Square, Kennedy Boulevard runs straight north through Union City and into West New York — usually fifteen to twenty minutes, and it is the most direct option by a wide margin.
From the waterfront — Newport, Exchange Place, Paulus Hook — you are better off cutting over toward Hoboken and then taking JFK Boulevard East up along the Palisades. It is a longer line on the map but generally a calmer drive, and the skyline views make it a pleasant twenty-five minutes rather than a grim one.
Without a car, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail runs north from Jersey City through Hoboken and up to the Weehawken waterfront, with a short rideshare from there. If you are travelling with a carrier plus a bag of hay and a litter box, a direct rideshare is usually worth the difference.
One practical note for Jersey City clients: if your trip starts at Newark Airport, dropping off here first is a slight detour rather than a real one, and it beats trying to arrange a same-morning sitter handoff.
Built for apartment rabbits
Most Jersey City rabbits are apartment rabbits — free-roam in a living room, or an x-pen setup in a corner, with the usual background of elevators and neighbours. The boarding space is designed to feel like that rather than like a facility: a 30-inch playpen on two 48-inch quilted mats, a blanket draped over one side for shade, a crinkle tunnel, a plush toy, and a heavy ceramic water bowl that will not tip when a rabbit decides to redecorate.
If your rabbit is genuinely attached to their own pen, bring it and I will set that up instead. Familiar smells do more for a nervous rabbit in a new place than anything I can provide.
Medical and special-needs rabbits
This is where most Jersey City clients end up finding me. My own rabbit has megacolon, which means motility medications, critical care syringe feeding, subcutaneous fluids and daily output tracking are part of my normal routine. Medication administration is available for an extra $10 per day.
Rabbits with a stasis history, dental problems, arthritis, head tilt, or a strictly controlled diet are all welcome. We will go through the specifics at the meet and greet. I keep an exotic vet on call, and I know what stasis looks like in its first few hours, which is the window that actually matters.
The rate and what it covers
Boarding is $30 per night, plus $20 per night for each additional rabbit. Bonded pairs stay together, always. The rate includes unlimited hay, fresh water, pellets on your rabbit's usual schedule, fresh greens per their diet, two wellness checks daily, a morning photo, and an evening video. Medication administration is an extra $10 per day.
Every booking starts with a meet and greet, and I would encourage you not to skip it even though it means an extra trip up the county. Seeing the space, meeting the person, and letting your rabbit sniff around for ten minutes changes how drop-off day goes.
