About 5 minutes up Bergenline

Rabbit boarding for Union City, NJ

Union City and West New York share a border and a main street. For most Union City bunny parents, this is the closest rabbit-only boarding there is.

Neighbours, essentially

Bergenline Avenue runs continuously from Union City straight up through West New York, which makes the trip here about as short as boarding gets โ€” usually five minutes by car, and a walkable distance if you live at the northern end of Union City and do not mind carrying a carrier a few blocks.

Being this close has practical advantages. Weekend stays are easy to arrange. If your plans shift by a day, adjusting is simple. And the meet and greet before your first booking costs you almost nothing in time, which means there is no reason to skip it.

Your rabbit boards in a private apartment as the only boarding guest. No dogs, no children, no other clients' rabbits. My own rabbit stays in my room behind a closed door for the whole stay โ€” no shared space, no shared supplies, no contact.

Getting here

Bergenline is the obvious route, though it is worth saying that Bergenline is also one of the busiest commercial streets in the state, and on a Saturday afternoon it can be slow going with a rabbit in the back seat. If you would rather avoid the traffic and the double-parking, the residential cross streets a block or two east run parallel and are considerably calmer.

From the eastern side of Union City, JFK Boulevard East along the Palisades is a pleasant alternative. From the western side, Kennedy Boulevard connects up just as directly.

If you take the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail from the Bergenline Avenue station, a short rideshare covers the remaining distance โ€” though for a five-minute trip, most Union City clients just drive or walk.

A quiet room in a loud neighbourhood

Union City is the densest municipality in the country by some measures, and rabbits here live with a lot of ambient noise. The boarding space is deliberately the quietest corner of the apartment: a 30-inch playpen on two 48-inch quilted mats, with a soft blanket draped over one side so there is always somewhere shaded to retreat to.

Inside there is a crinkle tunnel, a plush toy, a heavy ceramic water bowl that will not tip, and a stacking cup for pellets and greens. Everything is cleaned and reset before each new guest. If your rabbit is attached to their own pen, bring it โ€” familiar smells settle a nervous rabbit faster than anything I can offer.

Diet and medication, followed exactly

My own rabbit has megacolon, so measured diets, motility medications, critical care syringe feeding and subcutaneous fluids are all routine here rather than something I would be learning on your rabbit. Medication administration is available for an extra $10 per day.

At the meet and greet we go through exactly what your bunny eats, how much, and when โ€” and if the answer is complicated, that is fine. I follow the plan you give me rather than improvising, and I will tell you if something looks off. I keep an exotic vet on call and I know what stasis looks like in its first hours.

What the rate covers

Boarding is $30 per night, plus $20 per night for each additional rabbit. Bonded pairs stay together. Included: unlimited hay, fresh water, pellets on their usual schedule, fresh greens per their diet, two wellness checks a day, a morning photo, and an evening video. Medication administration is an extra $10 per day.

Not sure what to send along? There is a packing checklist here, though I can also provide hay, pellets and a clean setup if you would rather travel light.
